New Online Appointment Booking System

From Wednesday 1st October 2025, the practice will be introducing Rapid Health Triage for requesting appointments for GP’s, Paramedic’s & First Contact Physio's.

What is Rapid Health Triage?

A cutting-edge system that streamlines the way appointments are booked and managed. It will allow us to quickly assess your health needs and direct you to the most appropriate care pathway. It involves the patient completing a short questionnaire which is then triaged, and a suitable appointment offered.

Key Benefits of Triage

  • Faster Assessments: With Rapid Health Triage, patients can receive quicker assessments and guidance on the next steps in their care journey, whether it’s an in-person visit, telephone consultation, or self-care advice.
  • Enhanced Patient Experience: The triage process reduces wait times and unnecessary visits, providing a smoother, more efficient experience for our patients.
  • Avoid the 8am rush: Rapid Health Triage will help us to tackle the ‘8am rush’, and ensure a more even flow of appointments throughout the week.
  • Safety: Rapid Health Triage is approved as a Class 1 medical device by MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) and meets all of the NHS security and clinical safety standards. Your data is held securely on the platform for a limited time, after which it is automatically removed and stored on your medical record. We’ll be updating our Privacy Policy with more information.

How Does It Work?

Patients can access Rapid Health Triage through our website. Simply enter your symptoms and answer some questions about your medical history. The system will instantly analyse the information and provide you with tailored advice on what to do next. If further consultation is needed, the system will find an appointment for you or direct you to the right place.

Why Are We Introducing Triage?

We believe that by using Rapid Health Triage we can offer a more proactive, patient-centred approach to healthcare. This innovative service not only improves efficiency, but also empowers patients to make informed decisions about their health.

Why are we changing things?

We have listened to patient feedback and recognise that accessing appointments has been a difficult and frustrating process for some time.

With the ever-growing demand within the NHS, we are continuously looking at ways we can improve the booking process and increase capacity.

To achieve this, and ensure patients are receiving the best possible care, we have opted to use the Rapid Health Triage tool which will allow us to maximise availability, and ensure patients are seeing the right clinician in the appropriate time frame.

Why do I need to complete an online questionnaire?

All patients will be asked to answer questions using the online form or via the Reception Team when booking their appointment. Your answers help the system find the right appointment for you. This also means the clinician will have the relevant information prior to your appointment, enabling them to have more time to provide quality care to you.

Do I need to do anything?

During any contact with us, we may ask you to update your email address. This is because the system responds to you by email (don’t worry – sensitive medical information is not included). To be able to use Rapid Health Triage, every patient needs to provide an email address to the surgery so that you can be emailed details of your appointment booking. The system will not allow you to proceed without having a registered email address on the clinical system.

My friend/relative doesn’t use the internet, will they be excluded?

Absolutely not. This system will be used by whichever way you contact us so that the right information is captured and the right outcome is recorded. If a patient does not use the internet, our receptionists can fill in the form for patients so that they still benefit from this system, but with a helping hand.

When can I use Rapid Health?

From Wednesday 1st October 2025, Rapid Health Triage will be available from 8am to 6.30pm.Monday to Friday (except for Bank Holidays). We may also have to close the triage in an emergency within the surgery.

What type of appointments can I book using the Rapid Health System?

  • GP
  • First Contact Physiotherapy
  • Paramedics

How are other types of appointments booked?

We will not be using the Rapid Health Triage for the following appointments which still need to be booked by contacting Reception.

  • Nurse appointments (e.g. blood tests, cervical screening, vaccinations and injections)
  • Annual reviews with a Clinical Pharmacist or Nurse (e.g. Diabetes, Hypertension, Respiratory, Cardiac)
  • Medication reviews with a Clinical Pharmacist
  • Post-natal appointments and 6-week baby checks
  • Contraceptive advice and prescriptions
  • NHS Health Checks
  • Home visits

How do I book an appointment?

You will find a link to Rapid Health Triage on our website from Wednesday 1st October 2025.

A QR code which will take you to the questionnaire will also be displayed in the surgery.

We do understand however, that not everyone can manage to do this online.

If this is the case, please either ring Reception or attend in person and one of our receptionists will take you through the questionnaire and help you submit it. You will then be offered an appointment in exactly the same way as others filling it out online.

What do I do if I want to see a specific GP or Clinician?

When booking an appointment, the GP’s and Clinicians with available appointments will be shown and you can then choose from them.

Can I pre-book an appointment?

Yes, after you complete the online questionnaire, you will be offered an appointment within a suitable timeframe if it is considered necessary. When appropriate, both telephone and face-to-face consultations will be available, scheduled up to four weeks in advance.

What if I need a same-day urgent appointment?

If your problem is clinically urgent, Rapid Health Triage will offer you same day appointment slots to choose from.

Does this mean that patients who book online get more access to appointments?

No. All appointments that can be booked online can also be booked via the practice team.

The advantages to booking online is that patients do not need to attend the surgery or telephone to request an appointment.

Why have I been offered an appointment with this Clinician?

Patients will be offered an appointment with the most appropriate clinician for the problem described.

I was not offered an appointment, what do I do?

Once you have completed our triage questionnaire, we will offer an appointment in the most appropriate time frame. If you have not received an appointment, it means that your request has been passed to the Triage Doctor to review. Reception will be advised by the Triage Doctor on how to manage the request and a receptionist will be in contact within 48 hours.

My problem is personal, and I only want to tell a GP?

In order for the system to direct you to the correct clinician you do need to give certain information on the form. This is saved directly on to your medical record but goes no further. If you need help navigating the questionnaire or our website, you can speak confidentially to one of our receptionists at the surgery who can assist you. All of our receptionists follow a strict code of confidentiality just like the rest of our staff.

Who will book follow up appointments?

The clinician you see will book your follow up appointment if this is indicated.

I require an interpreter/assistance for my appointment.

All patients will receive an email confirming their appointment. In this message it will tell you to contact the surgery if you require an interpreter or assistance.

I need a sick note, what do I do?

For a sick note please complete the admin questionnaire

Will I still be able to use the NHS app?

You will still be able to use the NHS app to access medical records, test results and prescriptions, but you will not be able to use it to book appointments.

Can I order my prescriptions through this system?

No. This system is purely for booking appointments. You can continue to order your prescriptions via the NHS app, SystmOne or through your pharmacy.

What if have more questions?

Please contact us by phone or email if you have more questions that are not answered here. This system is new to us as well but we will do our best to answer your queries and to make the new system work for everyone.
